Course Description

The objectives of this course are to broaden and deepen the student’s self-awareness and prepare them to be a life-long learner. Success in today’s organizations depends on your ability to learn and adapt quickly to new and changing situations. The course is based on a model of self-directed learning and development. Gaining self-awareness and being mindful of oneself is extremely valuable in understanding and formulating your own career and life vision, in assessing your skills and abilities and in designing plans to reach your objectives. From mastery of this basic process comes the ability to manage change and lead others effectively. Prerequisite: MSLD 500

Course Goals

The course provides the student with an opportunity to explore and gain insight into their personal selves and to understand how to leverage their individual leadership frameworks to manage sustained, desired change. Change often occurs through discontinuity and students will learn how to recognize emerging discontinuities and how to manage themselves and others through it. Resonant leadership occurs when hope, compassion, and mindfulness are parts of the relationship between the leader and the people around him/her. Students will learn the fundamentals so they can apply them and become resonant leaders.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to:

1.Learn about themselves as a leader and develop skills to interact effectively with others by completing a personal mission, vision, social identity groups, and goals. (MSL PO 1,2,3,4, 5,6)

2.Identify, evaluate and synthesize scholarly and practitioner resources on proven practices of successful leaders (MSL PO 1,2 3,4,5,6)

3.Describe how Positive and Negative Emotional Attractors influence our physiology and how to effectively apply them in the professional setting to achieve optimal results. (MSL PO 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6)
