Leadership is not a position but rather a process which involves the leader, the followers and the situation. Great leaders lead with the best interests of their employees in mind. A leader must lead according to the needs of the organization. The leader must not only be successful as a leader, but also bring success to the organization and its employees.
This paper seeks to compare and contrast the leadership styles of two successful entrepreneurs. The paper consists of a background section which gives details on the leaders, their followers and the situations. A comparative analysis will be done on both leaders in terms of Power and Influence, Ethics and Values, Leadership Attributes, Results and Legacy. The paper concludes with identifying which of the two leaders is the more effective leader.

‘The more a company takes leadership seriously, the better it does. Hence, leadership talent is the real critical competitive advantage. Everything rises and falls with leadership’ – John Maxwell. Hughes, Ginnett & Curphy (2011), defines ‘Leadership’ as “the process of influencing an organised group towards achieving its goals.” This influence becomes practical only if the person influencing has more power than the others, where power is the “potential to influence others or the capacity to produce effects on others”. Every great leader would possess qualities such as being visionary; having good connectivity skills with the people; must be knowledgeable; must know about the business; accept feedback; must be able to motivate; must find the root cause of problems; must be able to achieve results; must be accountable. Whereas a poor leader would possess qualities such as being an authoritarian with excessive ego; demonstrate poor interpersonal skills and an inability to build and lead a team; is change resistant or overly ambitious; and, by ignoring accountability and integrity, does not command the respect of his followers. The purpose of this paper is to compare two leaders, both of whom are successful in the world of Computers. This comparative analysis will be done using the International Framework for Analyzing Leadership (see Appendix 1) which shows leadership as a function of three elements, the leader, the followers and the situation. The first section of the paper provides a brief background of each leader as well as a summary of the followers and the situation. The second section of this paper is a comparative analysis of each leader which compares both leaders based on the following leadership qualities: (1) Power and Influence; (2) Ethics and Values; (3) Leadership Attributes; (4) Results; (5) Legacy.
