In todays world we see thousands of leaders and managers. But in order to be a great leader or manager, you need to have the proper traits to be able to use your skills to lead a firm and its employees to the top. I will be discussing with you today about two of the most successful and great leaders to have lived in the business world. I believe that both Steve Jobs and Bill Gates changed the world for the better, and their great leadership skills are what helped bring themselves and their companies to the top. Steve Jobs and Bill Gates used their leadership skills, communication skills, and emotional intelligence/IQ skills to get to the top. These two great men will go down in history as great leaders and innovators that changed the way humans live today. But first I want to briefly discuss the difference between a manager and a leader. A manager is an individual who is in charge of a certain group of tasks, or in charge of a certain subset of a firm. A manager often has a staff of people that report to him/her. A manager motivates his/her staff, provide directions that need to be taken to reach the company’s goals, and removes roadblocks that come forth at the firm, and provides feedback to his/her staff and the management above him/her. A leader on the other hand is more complicated, and is a combination of a manager and a leader. An international leader not only needs to possess the skills and knowledge of a manager, but he/she needs to be a born leader(in my opinion), who knows how to motivate and bring out the best of his/her people. That person needs to put forth others before himself/herself, and needs to do what’s best for the people/firm. A true leader is a people’s person who is both a manager and a politician. You can be made into a manager with the proper training and guidance, but in order to be a great leader, you have to be born with the skills. Steve Jobs was born on February 24, 1955 in Palo Alto, California and has passed away on October 5, 2011. He attended Reed College but did not finish his degree. Steve Jobs is known as one of the founders and CEO of Apple for many years, were he created some of the most iconic products in technology. He is known as a charismatic pioneer of the personal computer revolution. Bill Gates was born on October 28, 1955, and was born in Seattle, Washington. Bill Gates attended one of the best universities in the world, Harvard. Bill Gates is known has one of the founding fathers of Microsoft, and he has been the face of Microsoft for decades. Bill Gates as well is considered a business magnate, investor, and philanthropist. Just as Steve, Bill did not finish his degree and dropped out of college just like Steve. I found it very interesting that these two great leaders were born in the same year of 1955, both were college dropouts, both are considered the pioneers of the personal computer, and both made billions of dollars. To better understand some of the most important aspects of these two great leaders, I have created a timeline of their achievements: Bill Gates:

1976- Bill and his partner Allen register the trademark Microsoft. 1977- Gates takes a leave of absence from Harvard and sets up Microsoft in Albuquerque, New Mexico. 1981- Microsoft incorporates and buys the rights to the operating system known as DOS from Seattle Computer Products. This system is modified and renamed MS-DOS, and the company licenses it to IBM for the company’s new personal computer. 1983- Microsoft announces Windows as an extension of its MS-DOS system, 1994- Bill Gates becomes the wealthiest person in America.

1995- Microsoft released Windows 95.
After 1995, Microsoft would update their Windows once every few years, and Bill Gates become eventually the wealthiest man in the world.

Steve Jobs:
1975- Steve and his partner Woz start assembling the Apple 1 computer in Steves parents garage, and start selling them from...
