INFORMATIVE SPEECH PRESENTATION

SPEAKING TIME: 4-7 minutes

GENERAL PURPOSE: to inform
DESCRIPTION
Every day you are exposed to informative presentations; instructors explaining concepts, students making announcements, supervisors providing directions. The informative speech can be found all around. Consider what information you may need to live a healthier, happier, more interesting and productive life.

Select a topic for this informative speech based on review of your personal interests, experiences and knowledge. Also, consider the audience’s knowledge and their need to know. Although you may include personal insight, your speech content must primarily be based on professional, credible research. With your research in hand, use the outline example and template provided to organize your speech presentation. To build credibility, also include specific reference to your research sources within your speech presentation.

INSTRUCTIONS
1. Choose an informative topic.
2. Conduct research.
3. Begin your working outline:
a. Identify main points for the body of your speech.
b. Select the most interesting and useful information from your research for supporting points. c. Include reference to your research sources.
4. Develop an introduction and conclusion.
5. Incorporate transitions.
6. Type your detailed complete-sentence outline, including bibliography. 7. Create a presentation outline; brief, key words and phrases only. 8. Practice delivery with your presentation outline.
9. Deliver your presentation on your assigned due date. (Do not read a manuscript.)

TWO - THREE RESEARCH SOURCES REQUIRED
Professional, credible sources
Include oral citations in the speech body. You must reference your research sources aloud within speech presentation. Include works cited at the end of your outline: Using APA or MLA format (www.citationmachine.net or www.easybib.com )
