1.0 INTRODUCTION
A manager in an organisation is an individual who is directly responsible for ensuring that tasks are performed by people or employees in order to achieve the goals of the organisation efficiently and effectively. Manager roles are play by the president, a Chief Operative Officer (CEO), Management Staffs, and also supervisors in an organisation. Roles of manager can be listed as; figurehead, leader, liaison officer, spokesperson, negotiator and also an initiator. The above mentioned roles are very important to be played well and have to be mastered by all the managers to ensure the organisation is moving in the right track. For the role of a figurehead, the manager has to become the ‘face’ of his organisation. He is responsible for entertaining the guest and leading the social and ceremonial event that related to his organisation. He also will represent his organisation during contract signing ceremony, and other official functions. For example, the CEO of a mobile phone company is giving the opening speech and a brief introduction about their new mobile phone during the product’s launching ceremony. As for the leader role, the manager has to lead, motivate and encourage his subordinates. Guided to the organisation goals, a manager needs to steer his team to work effectively and efficiently in the prior-determined track while resolving problem and issue along the journey. For example, in 1915, when Standard Oil Company facing a riot from their employees, the founder, John D. Rockefeller had take an action to control the riot and able to get the production back on track. Although his approach to this issue is rough, he is successful, in term of controlling his production team and achieving the goals of the organisation. In the other hand, a manager also needs to play as a liaison officer. In order to ensure an organisation is running smoothly and productive, communication between all parties is very important.
