• Referencing is a way of acknowledging the work of
another person, author or source.
• There are several methods of referencing, one of which
is Harvard Style.
• This workshop will discuss Harvard Style format
including both in-text and Reference List formats.
• Please note that this session covers basic aspects of Harvard Style. However, there are variations of Harvard Style. Therefore,
consistency is a must for both in-text and reference list formatting. Always consult your tutor to ensure that you are using the
requested format and style (when applicable).

Academic Honesty - Referencing
As a part of academic writing and ethical principles, it is
essential to show that whenever using other people’ words or ideas to properly acknowledge them.
• Failure to do so, may result in cheating accusation resulting from unethically claiming others’ work. This is called
‘’plagiarism’’, which is considered a serious matter and offence.

• Be very cautious of any material where you are not sure or cannot locate the author/ source details, date, etc.
