1. Executive Summary

Apple Inc is considers as a history of passion. It was begun by a pair of Stevens, Steven Wozniak and Steven Jobs together with Ronald Wayne, who combined their professional skills to create Apple computer on 1st April 1976 with the release of the Apple I, the first Apple computer, in the same year. Since the establishment, Apple has been focusing on the consumer electronics, computer software, and personal computers and the best-known products include iphone, ipad, Mac line of computers and other hardware and software products.

In this case study I would be focusing on
Steve Job’s Autocratic Leadership style and how this style has been affected the establishment from the Human Resource perspective. The first chapter would describe about his leadership style and how it creates problem among employees. Then the next sub heading will be explained on what autocratic leadership and the pros and cons on this style. The second sub heading will be on how the organization will have effected due to this leadership style in my point of view and my ideas to overcome that situation.

The next chapter follows under the heading, Literature review which would point on what is meant by Leadership, explaining the leadership styles. Then comes the heading Alternatives where I will be defining few alternatives with a brief explanation on Steve Job’s leadership style. Implementation Chapter will be restricted on the issues and solutions and where this report will be concluded with a Conclusion chapter evaluating the case analysis with my suggestions as well.

2. Problem Statement

In September 1997, Steve Jobs was appointed the ‘interim CEO’ of leading information technology company, Apple Computers, by the Apple board. Considering the fact that the company’s board itself had ousted Steve in a couple in 1983. Internally Steve Jobs tend to be very authoritative, his decisions were made with minimal consultation and his dictions were made quicker allowing him to respond to changes in the business environment more quickly. Below statements from the case study could be given as example for Steve Job’s authoritativeness, Job’s drive for perfection sometimes had a negative effect on the people he worked with. According to Alan Deutschman (2000), Jobs was described as “control freak”, “egomaniac”, and “fearsome tyrant”. Kahney (2008) also writes about Steve Jobs as a frequently turning from a charismatic leader to an “ego and emotion destroying tyrant”.
