Stability Strategy-- Pause and proceed with caution.
Over the past two years Apple has shown strong financial consistency. It has continued to perform above industry averages and also remains without any form of long term debt (cite 10k 08-09). From a corporate perspective, it might be an advantageous time to put a stability strategy into effect. As Apple continues to stay in the black during difficult economic times it would be a good opportunity to pause and proceed with caution. This type of strategy should be monitored in terms of length and but should only remain as a short to medium term strategy. Pros:
• Taking the time to pause would allow time to focus efforts on other strategies such as functional (R&D, HR, etc), cooperative, and competitive. • Reduce opportunity risk of bad investments
• Miss out on opportunities to expand vertically and/or horizontally • Competition is presented with opportunities to grow larger
